Absolutely an audiophile TEST & BREAK-IN disc
Are you feeling tired of those audiophile test CDs?
Can you stand an ancient strings trio for longer than 5 minutes, despite the incredible recording ?
Are you searching for a SACD which can seriously break-in your HiFi System?
It is rather a SACD that you should listen before understanding and unveiling its inner secrets, it would be a big mistake to classify it as “stuff for charts” only.
Why need audiophile TEST & BREAK-IN disc?
Well, just put it into your SACD player, press PLAY and turn the volume knob clockwise.
If your HiFi system sleeps every day, playing this disc will awake it again & putting it under a severe survival mode.
Since it is a mainly synthetic music it should be nonsense to search for soundstage and musicality.
What characterizes this album is: explosive dynamics, transient response and bass range articulation, speed and extension.
It is one of the best things around to test your HiFi components, from amplifiers to loudspeakers: your amplification system will be busy trying to deliver sufficient current to keep track of the explosive dynamics while your speakers will do the best they can to give you an idea of a thunderous bass range is.
Warning: especially if you have a low-powered amp and tiny loudspeaker (and woofers) pay attention to the volume level: amp clipping and broken woofers are a possibility. You’ve been warned.
But, from what’s been said, this album should be played extremely loud, as loud as possible.
Try raising the volume at successive steps.
Besides it is a good SACD for breaking-in of Loudspeakers. A few hours of “THE BREAK IN” work as if a week of effort.
Results of Music listening
Your woofers and tweeters will be ready to give their best performance after “THE BREAK-IN’s” operation.
It works well even for a faster warm-up of your HiFi system, especially if played sufficiently loud.
This “Break In” Disc costs similar to any other audio CD/SACD.
It works well as an “audiophile” accessories but it is mainly a piece of modern Art.
THE BREAK-IN PROCESS
The break-in experience varies widely. Some owners report the speakers sound great out of the box and they did not hear significant differences over time.
Others found harshness and restricted bottom end to be very distinct.
Most owners find that the speakers become noticeably smoother after 3 or 4 days of moderate volume playing time. In average the benefits of break-in are within the first 3 weeks.
There are however, some clearly defined effects on break-in time. The longer the speakers are played and the louder they are played will determine their break-in advantage. Eventually, the changes slow down and cease to be audible.
Loudspeakers are mechanical devices so not only will time and energy be factors but also will heat and humidity. If you are using a new amplifier, the performance of SACD player or cables will be changing as well.
The fastest way to break-in the speakers is to leave them on at moderately high levels when the house is empty. This might not be recommended for owners with tube amps but for conventional solid state gear, there are not likely to be heat or instability issues which will harm the amps or the speakers.
You hear different from day to day depending on atmospheric changes and the condition of your sinuses. As you become accustomed to the speakers and the system, you may stop listening to the break-in disc and just listen through to the music SACD.
When the time comes that you only hear music when you turn the system on, the speakers are broken in, your electronics are broken in and your ears have determined what true music is really like.
